We started FindMySong in 2011 to help musicians around the world meet and make music together. We wanted to remove location and technology as a barrier so that anyone — the jazz musician in New York, the high school drummer in South Carolina, the singer in France, the session musician in Los Angeles — could achieve success in the music industry.
A lot of things have changed since then. File sharing technology has made online collaboration easier. Digital audio workstations are more powerful, and computers are faster and cheaper. Streaming services and live performance, not CD sales, provide most of the music industry’s revenue. Music discovery stems from social networks and online services more than ever before. The music industry will always have flaws, but there has never been a more democratic time for a musician to reach musicians and fans that appreciate their work.
A lot of things have changed for FindMySong, too. We’ve helped tens of thousands of musicians from nearly a hundred countries work on projects together. Some of you even came by our offices in Los Angeles to meet the team and record songs with us! FindMySong exists to help musicians meet and make music, and we’re proud to have achieved that goal for many of you.
We’re proud to announce that FindMySong’s technology has been acquired to help power collaboration within music schools. Our acquisition has meant a new chapter for the company and our technology.
However, it has also meant we will be shutting down the public FindMySong service in March of 2017.
Until March 1, you will still be able to log in, access your projects, and back up any files you need. Any files currently in a FindMySong project are synced to your Dropbox account. You can download your split sheets as PDF files by saving or printing the web pages; the time-stamp of the file will record the date of the split sheet. On March 1, 2017, FindMySong will officially shut down and those files will become unavailable through our service.
It has been a humbling experience to see the talent on display across so many countries, genres, and languages on this platform. From all of us, thank you for using FindMySong.
Vince, Thomas, Waylan, and the FindMySong Team.
